You aren't alone in this conjecture, but you and those who agree with you are giving Trump too much credit. He's not a strategic thinker, nor are his close advisors. There's no Nixon-Kissinger level thinking in this administration. Also, trying to become a member of the den of thieves (RU, CN, NK & Iran) when you're already the wealthy sheriff with the most guns and ammo seems incredibly foolish. You also had the townspeople behind you all this time (EU/NATO, Japan, Australia & New Zealand, Canada, and many other nations)--and you tell them to f-off to court Vladimir? You ignore the value of trustworthiness, commitments to democracy and other values, as well as the greatest material well-being ever, to pal-up with guys who'd like to see you dead? Trump's reptilian mind is too short-sighted to achieve any Nixon-level advantages. Trump is the dim-witted mobster who's inherited the biggest family enterprise, and he doesn't know how to play at this level. It won't come a good end.
